About the artist

María Elena Vargas

I’m a Mexican artist who has always loved to paint, but the real journey started in 2007 when I was an exchange student at the Georg-August Universität in Göttingen, Germany and I had the chance to meet Conny and Ricardo Hiller, two amazing german artists from which I learned to develop free drawing and mix of all kinds of colors using acrylic paintings in order to express happiness in life. After my return to Mexico, I started painting like an insane person just for the pleasure of painting. And in 2009, in one unexpected day, everything changed. My mother was carrying some of my big paintings at the trunk of her van, and a friend asked her, “Who are those paintings from?”, and she said “My daugther’s, she paints”, then she replied “I like them, and I also have a friend who has a place were she can exhibit them”. That was the time when I realized that I was so excited to have the opportunity to exhibit my paintings. Thus, my first exhibition was in 2009 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, México. I can’t explain with words the JOY, HAPPINESS and EXCITEMENT it’s experienced when presenting my artwork. And from that time on, the story continues… The year 2013 was a starting point with the creation of the project EXPECT THE UNMEXPECTED, and it was also the opportunity to exhibit my work internationally. Denkmal! Kunst, Kunst Denkmal! (Monument! Art, Art Monument) was incredible!!! and it took place on September 28th-October 6th, 2013 in Hahn-Münden, Germany.
